New Need for Speed Video Game
The work which seems to still be in progress showcases a car crash as a player attempts to make their way through an obstacle. The game consists of what appears to be multiple post-visual effects which pretty much line up with previous reports that detailed that the game was set to feature a photorealistic art direction along with some subtle anime elements. The game was confirmed back in May by Electronic Arts. The company stated that the new Need for Speed game would be released in the last quarter of 2022. From what we can see, the footage featured a section of the game with a donut-shaped structure that the play-tester was trying to pass through. The game features a map in the bottom left corner with a speedometer in the bottom right. It appears players can achieve in-game cash rewards for completing challenges and missions in order to enter into different tiers. The crash followed by the glitch effect is something we haven’t seen before. As the player miserably fails the jump, we get to see added effects like a wings logo to represent the player gaining some air time which was not the case in this video. An NPC walks by randomly as the car crashes, which seemed quite hilarious for no apparent reason. We guess the game will focus on car customizations and car selection with less effort in the NPC AI division. As for the graphical fidelity of the game in the footage, it doesn’t look impressive. The game looks like your run-of-the-mill racing game launched by an indie developer for the PlayStation 4 which sadly doesn’t inspire any confidence in the game when it comes to visual fidelity. But that might change considering there’s no evidence of when this footage was recorded. It’s a stark contrast to 2015’s Need for Speed Reboot which although wasn’t all that impressive, did feature an atmospheric and JDM feel to it which the new Need for Speed lacks. Maybe the game has some tricks up its sleeve that we don’t know about in terms of impressive in-game content and gameplay. Though, from the 3-second clip, it doesn’t seem much has changed over the years in the direction taken by EA While fans hoped the game would be released around November or December, Jeff Grub stated that the game has been internally rescheduled from November to December. So far the game is set to feature in a fictional version of Chicago named Lake Shore City. They’re going to take a few extra weeks before showing it off. It seems that Criterion just got sidetracked a little bit, way back when it was working on Battlefield and that had a ripple effect.” Following speculation, a Linkedin post by EA confirmed that the new Need for Speed will be developed by Codemasters Cheshire in collaboration with Criterion games. The Producer job listing posted by EA Senior Recruiter Pete Johnson stated that Codemasters Chesire, the developer behind DiRT 5 and Criterion games will embark on an extraordinary journey to deliver the future of Need for Speed. Jeff Grub had some more words to share about the game. The game promised to adopt a new art direction along with photo-realistic visuals but so far, we don’t see any of that to be honest. Hopefully, the footage we saw was of an old build of the game. At the end of it all, fans and critics will decide if the claims made by EA are true or false. “You know when you see a car commercial or something like that and the car’s driving around, but then cartoons flames and stuff are flying off it? That’s the kind of the aesthetic that they seem to be going for.” Information on the game is still bleak this time around and paired with the upcoming release date for the end of the year. Fans were hoping for more new Need for Speed content, but they haven’t got any. Racing fans are hoping for a title that seems to steer away from the traditional Need for Speed formula that’s been used for over a decade now. The new Need for Speed title will presumably come out towards the end of the year on the Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS5, and Windows PC. So, will the new Need for Speed be different enough to cater to the tastes of Arcade racing game fans across the globe by introducing exciting new mechanics and gameplay or will it stay true to its roots?
